His early career included rotations and medical officer roles in major hospitals such as Ladysmith Provincial Hospital, Aliwal North Hospital, Port Shepstone Hospital, Addington Hospital, Far East Rand Hospital, Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, and King Edward Hospital. He also gained critical emergency care experience in the casualty unit at Netcare Parklands Hospital.
Dr Phekana’s work in community health includes service at Umlazi D Clinic, Folweni Clinic, and Nsimbini Clinic, where he served as a GP in the heart of the eThekwini/Durban region.
